Rice in Japan

Rice in Japan is an innovative 6-week intensive Japanese language and intercultural communication summer program led by Dr. Naoko Ozaki of Rice CLIC.

This program aims to build students’ intercultural communication ability through active, critical language awareness and language use in its natural sociocultural context. The program maximizes students’ opportunities to interact with local people through home-stays, community engagement, language partners, and cultural excursions. Furthermore, in order to develop their own understanding of how to interact with native speakers, students will gather empirical language data and analyze it in the classroom to identify discursive and cultural patterns of communication.
